3WD and all:
3WD Said:
Rhetorically I could asked,
Would you please give me a Pirsig quote where he says that "everything
has some type of internal" point of view ? But we both know you won't find
it.
DMB says:
I think the idea is backed up by Pirsig's statements. In LILA'S CHILD there
is a statement, which was posted here not too long ago, that went something
like this: Inorgainc patterns have the ability to respond to quality, to
their enviroment. But they can only respond inorganically and not
orgainicall, biologicially or intellecually. I don't yet have Dan's book,
however, so if someone would like to provide the exact statement and the
context of it, that would be nice. Another comes from the SOVD paper, which
I also do not have. Maybe it even comes from Lila. (Help with this quote
would be nice too.) In either case, I recall that he said something along
the same lines. He transforms cause and effect into a matter of preference
on the part of inorganic patterns where he says that "condition B VALUES
pre-conditon A". In both of these statements inorganic patterns can value
something, they can respond to something. This is where I get the idea that
of even atoms and such have a point of view, that everything has a point of
view.
And just for the record, I'm flattered by your praise for my rhetorical
skills and debating skills, but I never took a class in high school - or
anywhere else. I was never on any kind of debate team, but thanks all the
same.
