This wasn't an anectdotal case--I just made Suzy up.
It is based on developmental research.
I want to say 4 yrs was when they showed a true ordinal
sense of number. I remember I thought the age was so late I didn't really
believe it and I tried it
on my nephew (who was 3 I think) and sure enough he failed.
I think the researcher was Case but if you are interested in
more details I can look up the specific details of the study.
Maybe some precocious kids can have a genuine sense of numbers and
counting but the norm is no.
