You're right, I sold both the hippies and Pirsig short. I totally
overlooked the whole computer thing (Stuart Brand (Publisher of the
Hippy Bible-The Whole Earth News) and co-founder of The Well, Mother
Earth News and that whole back to the land, alternate energy trip,
promotion of organic gardening and food, vegatarian and vegan, animal
rights etc. My reaction was primarily to those who continue to use that
one isolated quote usually in an out of context and sterotypical fashion
to suggest that hippies just got drugged up and dropped out when that is
just not the case.
