Thanks for your 21/8 17:12 -0500 American perspective on environmentalist's
dreams and means.
I have the impression that both the Dutch environmentalists and the
'moneymakers-at-the-expense-of-nature' use less caricatural means to look
after their (adopted) interests. Maybe because of the Dutch tradition to
make decisions after consulting all those concerned. Extreme viewpoints and
argumentation that isn't acceptable for others is less likely if everyone
tries to stay on speaking terms with everyone else.
Can't the Kyoto agreement be seen as a part of a collective effort to find a
balance between interests?
I don't think that the relative power of the environmental movement on a
global level is such that the Kyoto agreement is only a step in the 'slow
and incremental enacting of legislation at the ... global level' serving
only environmental interests.
