Dear John B.,
Glad you're still hanging around. A pity that you seem to be seeking excuses
to leave...
What do you want from the MoQ?
28/8 22:17 +1000 you wanted it to relieve suffering induced by "self"
illusion, preferably in a way that accords with your own solution 'attending
to what is in the moment, without imposing egoic values'.
So I explained 29/8 23:23 +0200 that my MoQ may help to relieve suffering
and that your solution can be translated into MoQish quite easily.
Now (1/9 12:01 +1000) you think my answer too sterile (abstract) and not
having a person-centred perspective.
If anything has the potential to raise 'self' illusions, it is a
person-centred perspective! But having the potential doesn't mean that that
is an inevitable outcome or that it is implicit in the solution.
Of course you're right that fleshing out 'right/Meaningful' in 'openness to
change in a direction that is experienced as right/Meaningful' will do
justice to human experience. So that's what I have repeatedly been doing on
this list. I was only abstract for brevity's sake, trusting you to
understand the references to less abstract past posts.
I have explained 'Meaning' (different from 'meaning') as a value pointing
beyond intellectual 'truth', guiding intellectual progress. I have suggested
religion (for me) and art/religion (for others) as areas of human activity
most likely to find/create new 'Meaning'. I also connected 'Meaning' to
(life)stories. (I can give references if you want.)
I don't agree that '[I am] saying that [M]eaning makes men through an
evolutionary value accretion process, while [you] say men make [M]eaning'. I
think we can easily agree on saying that both statements are 'Meaningful' if
we apply Scott/Nishida's 'logic of contradictory identity': DQ (which
Meaning points us to) both 'creates' and 'lures' us.
With friendly greetings,
Wim
