Hi Maggie
Wonder if your input hasn't some metaphysical undertones, perhaps it
contains elements of your "mediating" idea (which I shall not recount for the
risk of twisting it out of shape). You said:

In the discussion about Intellect's relationship with Society I see a lot of
"packaging and redirecting of social substance" by Intellect. Some of the
participants to the extent that there is no Social level left. (Wim and
Wavedave).

Yes, the (at any time) upper level has a tendency to "trap" the rest of
existence (mostly the level below) and at the time that Society was top notch
(in the mythological past) it trapped a lot of biological patterns. Many of
which was released by Intellect's own trapping of social patterns.

No, I don't think it is treated by Pirsig.

I would say that biological value (stay alive) is overridden by social value
(everybody goes by car) and that Intellect as always takes Biology's side
against Society (objectively seen it's irrational to expose oneself to the
danger).

I believe Roger has some views on commercialism/capitalism.

Not much economical activity - beyond the hunter&garner stage - would
result from non-redundancy.

Are we allowed to heat our houses here at the North Pole? :-() Matter of fact
we have had the warmest summer for decades and only now can sleep in
comfort. I plan to install a "heat pump" (called) that also acts as a cooler
when needed. But it is made in Japan and will add to the non-metaphysical
packaging and shipping pollution.

Keep thinking!
