RICK
Damn it... I spent 2 hours writing you a response using quotes from the
book, and then I lost the saved version. So for now, you just get the 1/2
hearted summary....

Static Quality is means to ends, not an end in itself. It's DQ's way of
putting up steps on which it can climb to higher and higher levels of
complexity and good...etc. Everytime DQ puts up one of the those Static
steps, the step either leads to higher levels of complexity, or it doesn't.
If it doesn't, don't be suprised to see DQ wipe it off the map and just
begin again (just ask the dinosaurs if DQ can be destructive).

DQ is both the chalk and the eraser,
