When I say that the process of empathic thinking is little understood by
society you have pointed out that short coming by suggesting that empathy is
only used when interacting with others. Empathy is a process of thinking that
is evolving into the mind and collective consciousness of mankind. It is a
process of thinking just as logic is a process of thinking. It's
manifestation in our interactions with others is to be more understanding of
them. IMO It is what Pirsig was talking about when he said the answer to
quality must lie between the horns that represented his scientific thinking
and romantic thinking. The result is what I call empathic rationality. This
does not alter or diminish scientific or romantic thinking, it merely
overcomes the inherent conflict, (represented by the tip of the horns that
will gore you if you wrong), allowing an unencumbered communications process.
I suggest that our consciousness is a communications process. It will
overcome the irrational thoughts that adversely impact our thinking, i.e.,
feelings of irrational guilt, anger turned inward, etc. I also believe that
it is an inherent process just like logic thinking that has simply needed the
right environment to develop or grow. It is a part of the evolution of the
mind.
