Well, no, the political point is that I am trying to persuade you to
expand your reaction when you come across the word "faith", and not to
distinguish between two (or more) fixed definitions. The secularist
position has largely succeeded in persuading folks to think "naive
credulity" on hearing the word, while what I am trying to do is get
folks to be aware that the meaning of the word is ultimately
unfathomable, that it superficially can mean something like "basic
hypothesis for understanding other things" or "basis for moral
guidance", but can also go deeper into issues of trust, truth,
transcendence, and who knows where. Deconstruction teaches that there is
no bottoming out in terms of "first principles", so what *is* our reason
for doing anything? Faith is a name for that question, to which there is
no complete answer.
