Hi Steve, all,
Potentially a fascinating topic, but I suspect it may rapidly slip away from
being something relevant to the MoQ. For example, Horse's reference to the
Islamic legends about Jesus, coupled with a sceptical attitude towards the
gospels - why seek information from sources 650 years after Jesus when there
is so much room to doubt what was written 50 years after? I think that
discussion about those things, whilst fascinating (and you could say I have
something to contribute) is not going to be all that enlightening - it'll be
like the political threads, only worse, because there is even less common
ground on which to make a MoQ assessment. I just think we might get bogged
down in arguments about whether Jesus had any DQ or not, and our judgements
about that will reflect our prior religious commitments, not any insight
into how the MoQ applies. I could be completely wrong about this, however,
and indeed would be glad to be shown so.
Perhaps the thread could move to consider the question of 'religious genius'
in a more abstract fashion, eg focussing on the Brujo or the role of a
shaman. Wim and I spent much time discussing this a while back, in the
'static and dynamic aspects of religion' thread, which are available in the
archives.
As I say, if the discussion doesn't immediately collapse into a grinding of
axes I'd be very happy to join in.
