Hello Sam,
I am new to the forum, but your title caught my eye as i like Plato. But when
you began to talk about the individual i realised that you are
intellectualising and not thinking! It seems to me as if intellect has
evolved the utter belief of self as a way of protecting what it values from
society? If you look at Plato's Republic, you can see there the delicate
philosophers are placed in a position similar to the delicate material found
in cell structures - the riff raff and non-intellectuals are placed in an
analogous position to the tough resistant layer against lower level value
attack?
I get your point about individuals, but i think you are putting the cart
before the horse in that self is a tool used by something far wider and
dynamic than one individual.
Peter.
