Hello Sam,
I joined your post because you introduced Socrates, and i like him. I like
Plato, and that leads onto Plotinus, who's thinking is very close to Pirsigs
i believe? Anyway, the One is beyond any construction and prior to intellect
in his view and it is also beautiful. So beauty is a word closer to the One
than any intellectual description? Therefore, intellect comes from beauty
also. This appears to agree very beautifully with Quality?
In my view, and please help me with this but shaman are in touch with a
higher world for the benefit of mankind, and mystics are not searching for
anything that may be described as self? So what is intellect then, because
that is your question if i am right? I tend to think intellect is the
artistic appreciation of the patterns of nature. These patterns jump out of
the background of perception and are chosen in a quality relationship.
Intellect may have been promoted by early people just looking up at all those
dots on a clear night and seeing whatever they saw there?
Peter.
