I was thinking a synthesis was need, kind of for the same reason you are
stating. I was thinking that most knowledge is about being able to make
predictions of the world. This should be allowed for people too. I was
thinking to function in the world you have to make some kind of
judgement in the sense of a rule-of-thumb or hypothesis of what they are like
to be able to expect and respond to their behavior.
But a problem with these is lead to what you said, prejudice.
It would be like the Cleveland Harbor effect--ignoring any inconsistent info
and noticing only the consistent info. So I do understand to really function
in the world there has be a 'judgement' to be able to predict their behaviors
and be prepared for them. But I do think this should be done with caution for
the above reason (it's only hypothesis and hypothesis can be rejected). Your
perception of their behaviors are limited so to avoid a rigid judgemental
approach. Another thing I want to point there has been a lot of evidence for
how the other person's judgements affects behavior.
They have seen this in research the classroom, job interviews.etc.
The persons judgements or hypothesis affect how they act toward you and this
affects how you act toward them.
So basically okay I give in there has to be some level of judgement to
really function in the world but if you don't do it flexibly then
yes I would probably 'judge' you to be a judgemental person:-P
