MD Predictability

Jonathan and Squad,
First, let me say that I replaced my blood with 50 weight Mobil 1
synthetic to compensate for the leaky valves and everything is fine. Not
too bad for a 200,000 mile vehicle.
Oops, watch that SOM thinking Jonathan. Remember A does not cause B but B
values precondition A. Same thing according to Pirsig, just a different
view.
I have been thinking what might be a non-historical approach to the
workings of the physical universe and the prospect staggers me. I can see
no other way to look at the system that has brought us this far without
drifting off into LaLa land. I realize that to a proper scientist the idea
of us amateurs surveying the results of your efforts and drawing
conclusions must sometimes be maddening but I think it is a valid approach.
After you have discovered the underlying laws and explained them to us then
I think the contemplation of their effects is a useful exercise for
non-specialists.
I am still befuddled by the Quantum effects. I am firmly of the opinion
that there is something that we do not understand, and that the results are
predictable.
An analogy that Troy and I used the other day refers to a basketball
team. There is no way to predict where an individual player will be at any
given time but we know that we can keep our eyes on the basket and
understand the thrust of the game.
It may be true, and probably is, that it is all a matter of probability
and tendency but that word tendency gives me some problems. If there is a
tendency then tendency, it seems to me, would work in opposition to strict
probability. I can't help but feel that there is something lacking in our
understanding of the Quantum effects.
As it happens I am going to Wal-Mart to get a new valve for a toilet. If
it is not there or if it now has a Dollar Store sign on it I will let you
know. Puzzled in Oklahoma. Ken
