Re: MD Level 5 ... ?

When I am looking for evidence of Level 5, I look for and "escape" from the benefits of
intellect. There are many evolutionary levels of intellect, just as in biology, in which
systems range from simple to complex, and "waves" of biological evolution tend to subsume
previous biological systems, but not always.

It's hard to talk about an intellectual pattern. The closest you can get to describing it
is to say a "concept". But even a concept has to be shared, and that requires social
action. Still, different intellectual patterns have different effects on the system that
they effect. Different social and biological "skills" are associated with different types
of intellectual patterns, so that's one way to describe them.

Example:
* somatic thinking, which is a pre-verbal intellect (passed on by mime and sign). This
includes some components that seem very biological, including intentionality, generativity,
communication, distinction between real and re-enacted, simple portrayal of objects,
self-generated (internal) cues for action.
* Storytelling (conception of self within time), perception of opposites, use of metaphor,
perception of self within mythos
*Perception of the spectra between opposites, awarness of varieties of social options,
Reason, logic, numbers
*Capacity to use and even create or modify some of the various bodies of intellectual
patterns that education supports.
*Awareness of and facility within different sets of intellectual patterns, ability to plan
to use different sets.

A computer virus doesn't escape any of this. It doesn't oppose any of this. It is,
perhaps a highly-refined situation in which the highest level (intellect) closely resonates
with the lowest (inorganic) with very little intermediate connection in its function
(although it definitely needs complex biological and social systems to exist).

When I look for level five, I look at

brainstorming--a type of social/intellectual behavior that allows groups of people to
deliberately escape logic and social expectation to leap to a new level of organizational
effectiveness.

Friday night TV, (X-files, Millenia) which show a widespread fascination with and paranoia
of "conspiricy." Conspiricy is a word that means a bunch of bad people (often with
super-powers or super-resources) are getting together, and causing things to happen. In
some ways these "things that happen" are bad and don't value human life, but in others they
are highly-desired, as with the parallel belief that if UFO's come now they'd show
everybody, fix everything. At any rate, this is all bigger-than-life. It seems to have
a lot of the required characteristics of a higher-level pattern being perceived by a lower,
that doesn't know what it's looking at, but is aware of the changes being wrought.

Gotta go to school.
