Subject: MD What is Dynamic Quality?

glove, you know what they say: you cannot step into the same river
twice...i think this may be true of Dynamic Quality. it may be a constantly
changing entity...could it be something like non-linear time which is
simultaneously happening outside of our physical bubble where matter
experiences time linearly, in a past, present, and future sequence?
you also say:
>i listen to the leaves rustling overhead in the autumn breeze and the
breeze
>is not the leaves. but to describe the breeze further than naming it air
>movements or gusts thru the leaves seems to be impossible. ...what can we
call
>the breeze but a breeze?
we may call it a breeze but its more than its name...we would feel its
caress and coolness without even knowing it existed. but would it exist
without us knowing it?
you also said:
>i guess i cant really say what a wave is either, other than it is a wave,
>because as soon as i focus on one, its gone, and another comes along for
>just an instant, then it too is gone, and so on and on and on it goes...
the
>water is always the same...but the manifestation of what causes the water
>continually pushes the it into ever changing forms that flow past me
>ceaselessly.
glove, that is an excellent depiction of dynamic quality for me, at least.
because waves are transient fragmentations of a whole...water! that may be
what dynamic quality is for us who cannot step outside to see its form. we
can only perceive the fragments and not the whole of dynamic quality.
do you think im still thinking in an SOM way here?

>a million insects and birds swarm over the early morning river and they too

>coming winter and the warmth of the early morning sun has drawn them all
>forth on individual errands. fish jump, leaving sparkling ripples flowing
>downstream.
the insects, the birds, the breeze would still be there even if we would not
make sense of them and call them such. they would still exist without our
frame of reference.

>what is Dynamic Quality? come sit on the riverbank beside me and if you sit
>long enough, perhaps you will see for yourself!
pirsig has a zen background and would understand very well how sitting on
the riverbank would be dynamic quality...
