Lila is the way she is to facilitate specific moral issues for Phaedrus to
think about. Besides, these are specific literary characters. I don't
think Lila was supposed to represent women, or that Phadrus represents men.
Saying that Lila is a comment on females is like saying Raskolnikov is a
comment on Russians. They are characters who are a point of departure for
the artists who created them.
