At the risk of coming off as an elitist ass, the vast majority of souls
in this country couldn't care less about politics so long as they stay
fat, dumb and happy. If the economy goes into the tank, someone's head
will roll and that will be whichever group is in power at the time.

I contend that social evolution is driven by individuals, groups of
which fall into two or three general categories and who then attempt to
influence the rest of society in one direction or another.

That's not to say that there is any vast conspiracy of shepherds. It's
actually consensus building. Keep in mind, though, that there was a
consensus of opinion that the earth was flat at one time.

Yes, it is. The "winner" had better be right, or a healthier culture is
going to supplant us.

This has been a recurring theme in history.
