hola amigos!;
Horse put these insights into cyberspace:
I was under the impression that the idea of the mystic
>experience was to dump static patterns and head off in the direction
>of DQ.
This is definitely Pirsig's take. I was at first in favour of adding a
mystic level, not to mention a quantum level below. However, after
reflection, I think the mystic is aiming to exist Dynamically in all
possible respects. Taking the four levels to Dynamic extreme. (could
there be levitation then? - inorganic Dynamism - the ultimate
defiance of gravity?)
>There are a couple of things that bother me about adding a mystical
>level above Intellect:
>
>1) How did (does) the level emerge? From what Kevin is saying this
>level is between Intellect and DQ so it must have emerged from
>Intellect and be built upon it.
An organism is a static/Dynamic relation of a # of inorganic
components - yes?
A sociey is a static/Dynamic relation of a # of organisms - yes?
(or is the social level ONLY human? - this is another topic)
An intellect... well, the way I see it, we are able to creatively form
rational, logical principles(values) only through the comparison of
previously understood/imitated/learned social values.
Such as - your mother and father have different social values. Which
do you choose? Consider both, and peers, and siblings...
rationally pick the BEST.
'Primitive' tribes do not appear to
>possess these values but they do possess mystics in abundance,
>often in the form of shamens - in fact it seems, in some ways, to be
>the coming of Intellect that denies the existence of Mystical
>experience. But if Intellect comes first and a static mystic level is
>built upon or emergent from intellect there is a definite
contradiction.
This is surely correct. Hmm.... do we have a Mystical Platypus?
If we accept ch 12 - the four levels are ALL THERE ARE. They are
exhaustive. Well then, what the hell is a mystic doing?
Gotta run. this discussion is cool. (Dynamic)
