Hi Glove
Just a quick one.

The experience cannot be passed on or adequately described, as
with (possibly) DQ. What's passed on is the knowledge that mystic
experience is attainable and, in some cases the knowledge of
possible means of attainment of this state. This puts the practice or
approach in the intellectual sphere.
Glove:
I agree that the practice or approach to mysticism is within the
intellectual sphere, or level. "What's passed on" would seem to be in the
social intercourse between master and student, leading the way to a higher
intellectual experience.
Horse:
As for "the connecting point" in MOQ terms perhaps this is the point
at which one "Abandons all static patterns in favor of pure Dynamic
Quality"?
Glove:
Yet by abandoning all static patterns there is no longer a connection, is
there? Pirsig seems to point to a Saint as an example of one who has
abandoned all static patterns when he says nothing upsets the Bishop so much
as a visiting Saint, or words to that effect. Why? Since you said: "This
puts the practice or
approach in the intellectual sphere", perhaps the Bishop is trapped within
social level values and the Saint within intellectual values? If this is so,
then mysticism can be seen as part of the evolution of the intellectual
level away from the more static restrictions of the social level, can it
not? The intellect becomes a path through which all static patterns are
abandoned? But perhaps the intellect cannot be abandoned altogether and that
person still "be here"?
Best wishes,
glove
