Very interesting ideas.
I feel that the mystical reality equates more with Pirsig's pre-intellectual
awareness. It's at the cutting edge of reality, before intellectualization
takes place. As Pirsig says, the difference betweem a mystical one and a
monism, is that mystical ones cannot be defined; where as, a monism can.
Quality cannot be defined, so this puts it in the class of mystical. However,
the metaphysics of quality, which are definitions, best explain reality, so
that makes quality both mystical and metaphysical.
I perform comedy as a living. Every comic has his own way of writing. My
style is that I'll be thinking of some premise to do a joke about, and then
forget it. I kind of turn it over to my subliminal self and let it go
fishing. Eventually, a punchline will strike me "out of the blue" and since
I'm not prepared for it, it cracks me up. That's how I know it will be funny
on stage. If I laugh. I believe the source for humor, along with music and
other art, comes from this pre-intellectual awareness- the mystic. But my
method for attaining it is metaphysical - it has rules.
I think religion is like the premise of one of my jokes. It is a method
for achieving this pre-intellectual awareness. It's like a ladder. It takes
you up to a level that you want to be at, but is not the source of what
you're looking for.
Just a thought.
