Hello everyone
First of all, I'd like to say "welcome" to our new members, Fred, Bob, Jeff
Phillips, Grant, and John Beasley (hope I didn't miss anyone)... I have
enjoyed reading all your posts and unfortunately time does not permit me to
answer each one individually at this particular moment... but perhaps in the
near future we can enter into discussions.
I also noticed Roger's (hi Roger!) warning about certain mean spirited
people in the discussion group and it gave me pause to wonder at an e-mail I
received from a long-time member of the Lila Squad concerning his recent
lack of contributions to the discussion group... I myself seem to experience
a type of burn-out after a few months of posting and have to take a
sabbatical of a month or so before I can get back into the discussion with
renewed energy. I am still not sure if I am completely back or not yet...
and perhaps a warning is in order too...
I tend to believe that some people take this discussion group far too
seriously... I've even heard stories of members who have suffered nervous
breakdowns in reaction to discussions about Pirsig's Metaphysics of Quality.
I have seen some very harsh words tossed about here, some aimed at me, some
at others. And I have seen some excellent posts go completely unanswered.
Many times though, I have been involved in some Quality discussions, and
that is probably why I keep coming back, I suppose... its good not to take
oneself or anyone else too seriously here though.

No, I never have had such an experience that I am aware of. I am well past
my misspent youth yet I find that my main preoccupations are still partying
and women and writing about metaphysics and philosophy... :)
As for what makes Pirsig's philosophy so attractive to me, I would have to
say that I sense there is value in it, and yet when I attempt to put my
finger on just what that value is, I find it is impossible to do.
Best wishes,
