>From "The Oxford Dictionary of World Religions"
Lila (Skt., 'play') The 'joyous exercise of spontaneity involved in the
art of creation.' Lila is freedom of movement, as in the rush of water
from a fountain. It represents an exuberance in creation, undertaken by
the god(s) for sheer delight and thus is the reason why there is
something instead of nothing. Because lila arises from the creator's
bliss, the cosmos arises, continues, and dissolves in bliss. Sufferings
and misery are then a consequence of karma."
