Carmen: O.K, you got me Lurking, there is no way to deny it. But, I am still afraid to
open your posts. However, I am very happy to see that the discussion took a more
constructive route.I am interested in exchanging ideas, we are very likely to disagree in
a lot of those ideas. There are a lot of 'Cultural Blind Spots', from both or all sides.
As long as we can agree to disagree. In general if an idea is something that I disagree
with, there is a tendency on my part just to ignore it. Thinking that maybe the reason for
the disagreement is mainly ignorance from my part. So, I just let it be. But, and here is
the big BUT, there are some areas that are just 'too painful and too close to Home' to
just stand cool and let it go; without steering me up. It is easier to give opinions over
things that you have never experienced; but once you live through the experience, it is
another 'ball game'. Therefore, things like Affirmative Action, Daycare, Parenting go deep
into my 'guts' so to speak (in the cowgirl sense). I might ignore it, if we were total
strangers, but I think of the LS and the MD (sort of) not as strangers at all. Like you
and others have pointed out, we have a lot in common. One could say the MoQ and ZMM and
Lila, is the common denominator.
That week that we had our disagreements over Affirmative Action, I told my husband about
it over Dinner. Just as I had expected he went over the other side opposite to mine. He is
a Republican and I am a die-hard democrat. I was so furious with him that I almost threw
up all over the table. To make a long story short, we did come to an agreement. Or maybe
he just agree on it to put an end the argument, added to the fact that I started to do the
dishes and clean up furiously breaking some dishes and making a lot of noise. My point is
that, even families can argue to very high intensity levels.
Cheers,
Carmen.
