Glove:
Welcome to the discussion group! Very pleased to hear from you... this all
goes back to many discussions I have had with Bodvar Skutvic and others
concerning his SOLAQI (SOTAQI) idea (which you can find in the archives) and
what it is we call "reason". We read in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle
Maintenance about the Church of the Minorities, or what Phaedrus calls the
church of reason. Pirsig seems to be stating that reason is not an intellect
pattern of value but rather a social level pattern of value. Reason as truth
or Quality is not the highest static level pattern of value which we can
perceive. It is a high quality social level pattern of value.
Reason does not equal Quality... reason is a subset of Quality, I believe is
how Pirsig puts it, paraphrased.
Hope to hear from you again soon!
Best wishes
