Hello ,
Bo Writes:
Soul and self are Intellect's creations. The lower Q-levels demand no
ideas while Intellect (as language) is nothing BUT ideas - along
with their negations - spawned from the original subject-object
split. Amoebas aren't troubled with self-doubt or depressed by lack
of free will…"
I would say that soul and self are realizations that occur in the process
that becomes intellect in awakened man. All of the bits or microcosmic quality events
*bring about* thoughts composed of those little truths (or value "ties" if I correctlyunderstand
Robert Stillwell's quote of William James) experienced at the lower levels.
The soul or self that we come to realize springs from the pre-intellectual patterns of those
memories of value. Intellect gathers all of that into our world view and we can *think*
about soul. When we get done thinking about it we can resume more of the experiencing of it.
Intellect *replies* to IT but only aides in developing pictures or impressions of reality.
Just what is soul? I still think you'd have to say it is something inherent in nature that
"brings about" stuff. Something that makes galaxies swirl into a recognizable order and shapes strands of DNA..
Does it extend beyond what is recognizable and exert a kind of gravitational effect on what might be deemed chaotic?
Or is it born of some resistance to DQ? I keep thinking of the Indian term Buddhi
as "that which defines the terrain in time and space". Human intellect is a product of pre-intellectual Buddhi
that occurs in the life process of all developing quality events.
But soul or self is the *something* in the terrain that gets defined.
India's Sankhya philosophy says there are four notions we can rightfully use to define
the perimeters at this level of thought. I'll translate the first, Aum as unrecognizable DQ.
Then there is time, the notion of change; space, the notion of division; and anu which is
the first definition of soul or self that we can recognize. Anu is "that which holds together".
It used to be used as a direct translation for atom but now we have sub-particles--quality events
contained by the aggregate atom.. Intellect is something in man. Buddhi (roughly translated as intelligence) is something in nature, which among other things, spawns man. Soul is at the very root of nature. It isn't something created by man but something realized by him. It is also said that the very atoms have a smaller but equal realization of self or soul. Nobody has ever questioned an atom about this but it is inferred.
My own experience is that soul is *what we maintain realization of* beyond the experience of Self.
When the knower, the process of knowing and "that which is known" are all active but unrecognizable.
I used to be able to get into that state and those experiences were very good. They weren't uplifting
but "upholding" in some odd way. These days I seem to prefer the state of deep, dreamless sleep.
It seems even more "upholding". Umm…just thinking about it makes me want to take a nap rather then
go to the car wash and then to the beach which is what I was planning. I better have some coffee
before I sink beyond the brighter regions of the soul. It wouldn't be so bad but I keep waking up
to these undone chores!
Bill
