Definitions are labels we assign to patterns. Chaos is the label commonly

I prefer bad to evil, evil being a quality not present in any patterns except
humans ones. Pirsig indicate too much DQ is just as bad as too much SQ. I
would imagine that if we could now directly perceive the whole of Quality in
one instant it would appear as chaos. Of course you will ask how does this
square with Pirig's claim that everything is evolving toward DQ.
My take on that is there is a slow evolutionary process with patterns evolving
over time that are able to tolerate and integrate ever higher levels of DQ and
still maintain sufficient stability to survive.ie Rock->Tree->Dog->Man
