RE: MD Substantive and Semantic

Greetings,

Alright Jonathan, for the sake of the argument and clarity I shall restrict myself to saying that I
have yet to meet anyone who claims that SO thought is the exclusive measure of reality to the
exclusion of ethics. I mean it quite seriously. My brother, for example, is a self confessed, 'dyed
in the wool logical positivist,' (his words) and an astronomy researcher who, one would suspect,
would be as far away from Pirsig as anyone could be. But he would never agree with that statement
and neither would anybody else. I have asked many (and I mean many) academics to clarify their view
on almost that exact question and have never had anyone take the position that dialectic is the
exclusive measure of reality. Perhaps you would be kind enough to point me to those who do. I am
fascinated.

JONATHAN:
"You can hardly build a good DAM if you don't give a DAMN :-)
As for the "cute" line about deep-down superficiality, cute but
rubbish. It's so profound that IMO Pirsig took it as the starting point
for his two-novel journey."

And you say my line was cute. :-)

Forgive me, but to me there is nothing profound about stating the obvious. As in my first paragraph,
I genuinely never meet people who think otherwise. Perhaps I move in the wrong circles, but if I
thought that this really was the starting point I would retire gracefully from the forum and take up
humanoid corn dolly construction. This is not a revelation to me and I am surprised if it is a
revelation to others.
