By the way, despite recent allegations of being a nihilist, I do not share
you
and your daughter's pessimism on the future. One of the benefits of a
moral
universe is that it will tend to always become more moral. Even set-backs
become the fuel for further advancement. Synergy and competition are very
different patterns, yet individually both tend to lead to higher quality...
and together along with DQ and static latches they further re-enforce the
drive to higher value.
But I could be wrong.......

Roger, I too see signs of sort of unconscious correction going on in the
biosphere. Italy's birth rate has fallen below replacement rate and I seem
to recall other indications of falling birth rate. It is a terrible thing
to say but I sometimes wonder if there is not a subliminal awareness going
on in the biosphere that causes biosphereic corrections to occur.
Back to the "It is a terrible thing to say" I heard on TV the other day
that the HIV epidemic that is going on, mainly in Africa so far, may be a
result of vaccines based on Chimpanzee blood for use on humans that were
compounded and used maybe 25 years ago and provided the necessary link
between chimps and humans for the transmission of the HIV virus. I have
lost the hard figures but it looks like HIV bids fair to make some
significant corrections in our imbalance with the biosphere. Other things
are going on that I can't recall right now.
The thing that concerns me is that for the most part all of this is being
left to chance now. Very little awareness and even less effort is going in
to sustainability with the biosphere. It may be that it is a thing that we
need not concern ourselves with. That the corrections will occur without
our interference. I just think of how interesting and exciting it would be
if the entire population of the Earth were aware of our situation with
regard to the universe and we could all devote ourselves to compatibility
with the Earth. Interesting. I agree that the universe and Earth are both
moral places, of course that morality is universal morality and many times
may not look too good to humanity. One of the arguments that I used to make
was that universal morality and human morality are two different things.
They are still two different things.
Mary and I share many of the same ideas. We grew up together. She taught
me most of what I know.
I have blundered around all over the place. Better quit.
