I've read Lila dozens of times, and never turned a page. I own neither the hardback or paperback version. This is no Zen riddle, it's the magic of audio books.
I bought the title on cassette several years ago after first renting it, and listen to it in the car on longish business trips. It's really great for long family trips because it puts the wife and kids to sleep and I get to cogitate the miles away blissfully. I do usually wait until the 1 AM leg of the trip to play the "crazy sex episode in the fore cabin" scene.
If you're interested, Lila is complete and unabridged on ten 90 minute tapes (Book #2911) from Books On Tape, Inc. They're on the web at www.booksontape.com or you can call them at 800-626-3333. The purchase price is US$40.00 or you can rent it for 30 days for US$12.95. Unlike other audio book joints, BOT doesn't try to jazz it up with cheesy sound effects and distracting background music. They simply read the whole book to you (even dust jacket copy), annunciating clearly, in a conversational voice, and they take the time to learn how to pronounce all the tough words correctly.
I've found it to be a great way to "read". It's even easier to take notes this way when listening at home. I highly recommend it. "People you know" might enjoy it too.

How do you define friendship by the way? What is shared among friends?
Sometimes I feel sad to see that the definition of friendship boils down
to "people I know", "people I spend some time with" etc..
For me most of the relations I encounter are analogous to the mechanics
that repair Phaedrus's motorcycle (i.e. w/o quality)..
