Ok, you want to come in and tell me why I'm wrong, fine. But don't you think
it would be nice to offer some alternative views?
You're a talented skeptic and critic Struan, but this will only get you so
far. You're great at kicking the legs out from under the ideas of others.
You're great at explaining why something is wrong. Why not try explaining why
something is right?
It's always easier, and safer, to attack an idea than it is to present an
idea. You always seem to be in attack mode, and never present mode. Obviously
you have studied some philosophy. Do any original ideas ever arise from your
studies? If so, I'd like to hear them. I think you have some valuable
insights to offer, but all we ever hear from you is criticism.
It's frustrating to read your posts because you never say where it is you
stand. I asked you what your view of life was, and I got an evasive answer.
It takes courage to say what we believe in. When we say what we believe in,
we open ourselves up for attack. Is Skepticism your Primary God, Struan?
Perhaps, but I doubt that. You just don't want to say. I guess I can respect
that, this is after all a message board about the beliefs of Robert Pirsig
and not the beliefs of Struan, but I don't think revealing your beliefs is
against the charter. It could lead to some very enlightening discussion.
I think it is slightly sad that so many smart people live their entire lives
as eternal skeptics. Perhaps its irrational of me to find this sad, but I do.
So many people go to their graves "without enough evidence."
Should people believe in anything, Struan? Is there enough evidence presently
available to substantiate *any* of the major philosophies? I hope I get a
real answer from you on this, and not a sarcastic dismissal.
