Hey all,
Is the MoQ really a Metaphysics??? Couldn't resist this one....
STRUAN:
" Metaphysics concerns
> itself with the existence and properties of the presupposed (in SO
thinking) human being and the
> world which exists apart from human observation. (One glance at the fossil
record should be enough
> to dissuade those who claim that nothing exist outside of human
observation)
>
> I am now 95% convinced that the MoQ is not actually a metaphysics for the
same reason, but this will
> require some more research."
I dug out an old introductory Philosophy book I have from years ago and
looked up "Metaphysics". I found this:
Metaphysics: The term Metaphysics is used to cover two distinct but closely
related areas of inquiry: (1) any attempt to give a systematic account of
"basic" categories, and (2) any systematic attempt to answer the question
"What is there?".
I thought of this quote:
PIRSIG (LILA chap. 12 paragraph 2):
"In this plain of understanding static patterns of value are divided into
four systems: inorganic patterns, biological patterns, social patterns and
intellectual patterns. They are exhaustive. That's all there are....
nothing is left out. No "thing" that is. Only Dynamic Quality... is
absent."
If you accept the above definition of "Metaphysics" (which you may choose
not to) then I believe the MoQ is clearly a Metaphysics in light of the
above quote.
It's all Good,
Rick
