Greetings All!

Location Ideas...

I am very excited about the idea of a conference; however, I would like to
ask why it should be in the Netherlands? Personally, I would prefer Dallas,
Texas (closest big town to home) ;) - but definitely not in August! ;))
Seriously (not that is makes ANY difference from a Quality standpoint)
Pirsig IS an American, after all... What about the University of Montana
where it all started? (are you teaching Quality, Mr. Pirsig?) What about
New Jersey (where I"ve heard he lives now). Put it in his back yard and he
might feel obligated- perhaps this idea is of lesser Quality, though since
it's a Social Level coercion. Horse, what about Oxford? Personally, I
think a university affiliation would be ideal; lending just the sort of
respectability and power to draw speakers we need.

On a personal note. I just want to tell all of you that even though I've
not actively participated in some time, the mere idea that you are out
there in the world, thinking, discussing, arguing over the MOQ has been a
great comfort and source of joy to me through these past months since the
death of my Father, Ken Clark. I CAN'T THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH for the
contributions you have made to his memorial web page and the personal notes
I've received. I want each of you to know, that in the face of death, the
MOQ has something to say.

The Social level shuns death. It is a taboo subject, and we are so
conditioned to this response that we fear mention of the word. Let me
assure you that once again the Social Level is wrong. Death is a Quality
Event. It puts the lie to Subject/Object Metaphysics in a way quite no
other event can. SOM is helpless in its face. The MOQ is not.

Though necessary for survival, growth comes for us only by testing the
assumptions of the Social Level. We are driven to grow. It is this need,
this drive, and this alone that has spawned the Intellectual Level. The
name of this drive is Dynamic Quality. It exists not just in humanity but
is a real need of the Universe. Yes, I believe the Universe has needs. I
believe the drive for Quality is as much a part of the fabric of reality as
quarks, muons, dogs, and cats. There is no reality other than the drive for
Quality. Reality is nothing else. As Daddy might have said, Quality is the
groundstuff of the Universe. Without it the Universe would not exist.

Wishing you happiness,
Mary Wittler
