Hi Rich, Horse, Marc, Roger and all,
I'm away for the next week, but when I get back we should kick this
conference idea around some more.
So far, I like the sorts of ideas being thrown around.
Rich's campground idea could work - suits a grass roots, no frills sort
of event.
However, there is one aspect of "comfort" that I think we have to be
careful about, and that is some sort of decent room for the sessions,
with reasonable seats, lighting, acoustics, projection equipment (if we
need it), temperature etc. I don't want to be a bore, but I know from
experience how important this can be.
I think we already need to start seriously thinking about some
subthemes/sessions, e.g.:
- Emotions and rationality (I'd love to see someone like Ros Picard
speaking)
- Binary vs. fuzzy logic (Horse?)
- Causality/thermodynamics (maybe something I could try and organise -
certainly something I'd be willing to talk on).
- Evolution (my domain again)
- Comparitive philosophy (or philosophiES)
- Metaphysical hierarchies (is Maggie still with us? I remember her
collection and chart)
- Mysticism
This is far from exhaustive - it's just a list off the top of my head.
Are there more sessions people can suggest . . . or more important . . .
offer to ORGANIZE (i.e. contact potential speakers etc.)
I hope to see some interesting suggestions when I get back next week.
Jonathan
