I ceertainly would'nt discard quality as a concept, but merely mean that I
would 'put the tool down and try another' when the tool doesn't have
*apparent* utility.
as regards the absoluteness of any statement such as "there is absolutely no
such thing as absolute" - I have no problem with this, and it isn't the
paradox it seems, given that no-one (to the best of my knowledge) can make
such a statement 'absolutely'; the best one could could say is "to the best
of my knowledge", which is a relative statement rather than an absolute one,
and as such cannot be refuted on absolute, "is/is not" grounds.
You can infer from this that,as I said in a previous skirmish with Struan,
there is literally no way that anyone can prove (*to me*) the existence of
any 'absolute' or 'objective' (same thing) truth; that is to say, there
isn't a rational, logical proof which rests on totally impartial, bedrock
material proofwhich can in itself be proven to be 'true' irrespective of
individual bias. In effect, it's a nice idea, and more than that, an
important cognitive tool /intrinsic intellectual system, but one canot
'prove' (in absolute terms) ANY bedrock, concrete, first-principle,
'primitive' "truth" at all.
Educated conjecture and speculation as to assessment of the balance of
probabilities, is all we have.......................I think,
.....probably........
The one thing I could absolutely say is that "all paradoxes aren't really
paradoxes.......... probably".........probably.cheers
