I remember a conversation I had with a friend of my father, he is artist
(sculptures and artwork made out of cutted paper in a cubistic style). We sat in
a pub in, his and my ancestors hometown, Warburg, talking about a painture on
the wall - not his - which was for sale also. It was quite nicely done, in a
technical sense, but he convinced me, that it was lacking in his opinion of
'meaning'. There was nothing 'in it', no deeper sense at all; it was only a nice
painting of quite that sort people would like to have at the wall of their
living-room. In the end I agreed, that this painture had only superficial, but
in fact no real substanial attraction, what I would call nowadays
Quality.
