Hello everyone

Just so you know, after taking Roger's test I came out a strong Libertarian.
I suspect I am out of the norm here in the US. Even those who tend to agree
with me that marajuana laws should be repealed seem to disagree when I
expound on the virtues of repealing all drug laws. But I believe strength of
character is to be cultivated on the personal level and not mandated by the
state, which is why I am also against involuntary conscription in the armed
services except at times of war. Hopefully my comments seen in that context
will make more sense...

Hi Marco

Thank you for including me in your discussion.

There are certainly those who disagree with my assertions concerning the
original reasons behind the right to bear arms in the US but I still stand
by my words as will (I believe) any serious student of American history.
Today it is of course ludicrous and foolish to think of overthrowing the US
government simply because one has the right to bear arms and that provides
much fodder for the anti-gun activists here, btw. Personally I do not own
any firearms and I never have, but I appreciate that it is my right to do
so. I don't really know why that is though...

Police are to protect and serve and in my opinion they do a pretty good job,
considering. I live in a small town and know most of the cops here
personally. I've run into some real pricks too, though, let me tell you, and
I would not like to give them any more power than they already possess.

Dealing with the government here can be frustratingly slow but unless one is
a criminal type then I can think of no reason to fear our US government as a
whole. There are certainly factions of the US government to be feared,
however, or at least distrusted. J. Edgar Hoover as director of the FBI was
a quasi-dictator over his own federally funded private regime for many
years, the details of which are still coming to light. Timothy McViegh
certainly professed a real fear of the government but that is (in my
opinion) out of the norm here.

Or both wrong! :)

Take care. And thanks again!
