Well, in ZMM, Phaedrus was very sure to say there was a difference between
his Quality and Plato's Good, and there definitely was. But I think the same
can be said about the other topics you refer to.
Perhaps not that Quality was created by Pirsig, but more a name was given to
something that we all know what it is. But that in itself is an immoral act,
trying to bind a higher order of evolution through a lower order, intellect.
As soon as any more definitions or explanations are given to it, it gets
further and further from what Quality* (haha, programmers: get it? a pointer
to Quality, since the word itself is just representative of something
incomprehensible by a single word anyways) actually is. The same with the
Taoists and Sophists. Call it whatever you name you like, but past that, and
even at that point (not everyone in the world knows what Tao, the word, is,
but everyone knows what the Tao, the undefinable thing, is) you've moved
away from it.
