Hullo again Platt, and others interested,

I couldn't resist trying to rewrite your summary of consciousness, Platt.

Platt: Summary: Consciousness emerges from an organic pattern of nerve
cells and synapses whose function is to draw in Dynamic Quality from
the environment to create inner experience that serves the value needs
of the organism.

(John's comment on the above: This is a summary of mind, not consciousness.)

John: Summary: Consciousness emerges from or inhabits the physical world in
some lawful way, but is not itself physical. It is a fundamental given in
our experience, which illuminates our interaction with the qualities we
identify as the world. The givenness of consciousness is enough to refute
scientism. It does not, though, explain quality in its various forms.
