Premise: searching the MOQ archives, 90% of occurrences of "New Age" are in
sentences such as "... serious philosophy and not some kind of New Age crap
..." or similar. Of course.
I read the article and I completely agree with O'Brien. In a way, I am also
ready to accept his description of the New Age style as a *definition* of the
New Age movement, which I was missing. As soon as I do so, I am ready to
throw away New Age altogether (while appreciating O'Brien's reference to the
dual problems in philosophical-scientific language) at least for what
concerns everything in it that tries to look like a metaphysics; while I
remain fascinated by the other "half" of the movement - those accounts of
spiritual experiences that seem to be genuine and those teachings that seem
to be working to attain such experiences.
