Re: MD 5th level revisited

I think of the 5th level as being facilitated when we (a group) do something deliberately non-rational, such as a group of people brainstorming or doing some other "social" pattern that creates a balance. Sometimes these types of things end up being just an emotional, (in that case the balance was lost, and the social-biological pulled too far.) Sometimes it just degenerates into nothing. But if that "escape from rationality" is something that allows some new pattern to repeat, consistently, and it tracks a new groove into intellect (but the "groove" would be
something that rationality thinks is inconsistent), then there's a fifth-level direction being felt.

Pirsig was feeling the fifth-level shape when he talked about the masses of people, like Sylvia and John, who were not being "mass" people, yet were somehow all following a pattern in their non-conformity.

The question is, what are we following? What is it that decides when we brainstorm? What is it that we latch onto, in this kind of groupawareness and say, "ok, that's it, we're doing that, it has rightness, even if it's not rational, and doesn't follow any previous idea of rightness."

(Who asked whether MoQ applied to management?)
