I feel for all of those involved. It's a terribly taste of the violence that
people are capable of. I just hope that the Giant responsible for this
atrocity is destroyed. As the suicidal terrorists sacrificed their lives for
this evil deed, so too must the giant itself be made to sacrifice it's life.
Only then can organizations be dissuaded from perpetrating these heinous
acts to advance their ideals. The prophets would turn in their grave if they
knew what was being done in their name. The destruction, the chaos, bringing
a free society to it's knees. A terrible act indeed. I just hope that it is
resolved with a clear head, and evenhanded justice.
I hope those in need receive the strength I offer,
                Rob

 To all,
I live in Brooklyn, NYC... directly across the river from where the
World Trade Center formerly stood. Yesterday I watched from a window as it
was hit by 2 planes and finally collapsed. The rest of the day and evening
I could not keep the burning smell out of my home and for many hours it
rained ash all over my neighborhood.
Ironically enough, last Saturday night I was robbed at gunpoint in this
very same area. In the days since I have been struggling with the loss of
my personal sense of security. Little could I ever imagine, but it would be
less than 4 days until the entire nation (maybe the entire civilized world)
would be forced to confront the same loss, but on the grandest of all
scales. My own personal experience dwarfed and rendered trivial.
I sit in my apartment right now waiting to hear of the fate of friends
and family who worked in and around the Towers and for the NYPD and Fire
Department. I sat awake all night watching Palestinian children dance and
celebrate as virtually everyone I know is waiting to hear from people who
they will surely never hear from again. They say we are the terrorists, we
say they are.
So where is Phaedrus in all this I ask myself while typing this email.
What is the MoQ endorsed moral response to this devastating blow to Society?
Is this one of those elusive Intra-Level conflicts to which the MoQ remains
helplessly silent? Does a value-centered evolutionary metaphysics have
nothing to offer us here more than hollow and obvious platitudes about
doctors and germs?
What about the really hard questions? Would it be moral for the US to
charge into Afghanistan, level the Taliban, and sweep clean the terrorist
training camps and cells? Does a culture that refuses to live peacefully
with the rest of the world forfeit its right to existence? These are most
difficult questions. More difficult still is trying to answer them from the
perspective morality rather than anger.... and I don't think I have it in me
to try right now (I almost feel silly for even thinking about it, but it's
strange what your mind can do with situations to which it has no analogues
and no way to cope with). Thanks for letting sound off a bit. My thoughts,
love and sympathies are with the victims and their families.
Rick
