Andrea,

I am with you in believing that yesterday was a horrible tragedy, and against any moral system i support. But you have to remember that many other people of the world see the US as an enemy. And it's not like the US hasn't done anything to deserve that title... but no one deserves what happened yesterday. Remember the US bombing campaign on Iraq, during which they bombed the city of Baghdad every other night and destroyed hospitals and factories in their attempt to stop Saddam Hussein. Whether or not that's moral can be argued about, but regardless of any of that, people suffered, people learned to hate the US because of that. Many people are taught hatred of the US and grow up believing that an attack of this magnitude, right in the heart of the commerce of the US, would be moral. Many Muslims (although there is no proof of them doing any of this) are taught extremism and that they will enter Heaven if they sacrifice themselves for God. So this would be moral in their eyes.

Another low moral pattern is this stereotyping of Muslims in the media. Yesterday i saw all the major stations accusing Osama bin Laden of everything without any evidence to support it. Consequently, i saw the words "Ragheads go home" on the sidewalks where i go to college. My friend received a death threat. Another of my friends had a brother and sister both who were asked by local newspapers if they 'supported the bombings.' THis is very immoral in my eyes. They might as well blame American Indians every time it rains and accuse all Irish people of getting drunk and starting fistfights.
