Hi Platt.
I am afraid you appear to stop a little short in your comments?
The premise that intellectual patterns have a moral obligation to dominate
social patterns is not in dispute.
Economics is not scientific because it is rooted in Social patterns.
Capitalists may utilise the results of science - technologies - in order to
the better capitalise, but massing perceived material wealth is not science.
When i suggest intellectual patterns should be used to deal with the current
global situation, i am thinking of utilising intellectual insights for the
manipulation of social patterns.
The MOQ is a very high quality intellectual pattern that may hold the key?
Gross arrogant displays of opulence, and the bribing of allies with the same
is not a high quality social pattern, because consumerism is only going to
end up consuming all available planetary resources.
If there was an intellectually stimulated shift in social values towards a
social arte, instead of grabbing the most expensive car in the showroom, then
we may all be more secure and content with what is appropriate for living
well, and not that which we feel to be appropriate in economic terms; thus
furthering our exclusion from each other, and our biosphere.
This approach utilises a science of morals, not a science of substance and
matter.
Squonk.

"Now, it should be stated at this point that the Metaphysics of Quality
supports this dominance of intellect over society. It says intellect is a
higher level of evolution than society; therefore, it is a more moral level
than society. It is better for an idea to destroy a society than it is for a
society to destroy an idea. But having said this, the Metaphysics of
Quality goes on to say that science, the intellectual pattern that has
been appointed to take over society, has a defect in it. The defect is that
subject-object science has no provision for morals. Subject-object
science is only concerned with facts. Morals have no objective reality.
You can look through a microscope or telescope or oscilloscope for
the rest of your life and you will never find a single moral. There aren't
any there. They are all in your head. They exist only in your imagination.
"From the perspective of a subject-object science, the world is a
completely purposeless, valueless place. There is no point in anything.
Nothing is right and nothing is wrong. Everything just functions, like
machinery. There is nothing morally wrong with being lazy, nothing
morally wrong with lying, with theft, with suicide, with murder, with
genocide. There is nothing morally wrong because there are no
morals, just functions." (LILA, Chap. 22)
A major theme of the MOQ is that Q-Intellect's command of society will
ultimately lead to disaster (as it has in Cuba and the Soviet Union)
because SOM lacks the conceptual ability to determine right from
wrong. Intellect does not comprehend much less appreciate society's
vital role in preventing the biological use of physical force to attain
one's ends (otherwise known as murder, rape, pillaging and
terrorism). Thus we see arguments to the effect that economic
inequality is a justification for mass murder, and that if the "haves" will
only succumb to blackmail from the "have nots" then we can all live
happily ever after. Such reasoning only goes to prove Pirsig's warning:
"Intellect has a defect in it."
