Gerhard:
My MoQ hypothesis:
A well-developed society can accept many guiding intellectual ideas, in
other words a guiding intellectual level. In my opinion the western society
is such a well-developed society. Terrorist attacks, like the one America
experienced one week ago will reduce the number of intellectual ideas that a
society will accept (or have interest in).

Many societies, probably including Afghanistan, are at a low level of
development, maybe only nursing the intellectual idea of their religion and
their hate for the western world.

A massive attack on such a society will probably leave the society in a
even worse condition, clinging even more to their narrow intellectual
ideas.

So how do we get rid of the terrorists according to my MoQ hypothesis?

IMO we need to help them build a society that can develop an
intellectual pattern of value, including preferable intellectual ideas
that do not cause war, terrorism and murder.

I have based this thinking on my understanding of the MoQ, and the
example of the electro-shock treatment of the mental patient needing to
build new patterns after the treatment.

ROG:
Well said. I think we need to lead by example and "teach others how to fish"
as they say. However, it cannot be in response to a violent act, as it just
encourages more violence. I know America, and after we enforce justice we
invariably offer our aid and love. Germany, Italy and Japan, among others,
can attest to that.

BTW, before this atrocity we have been trying to export our ideas. That is
what the protesters have been trying to suppress in the world bank
demonstrations. Freedom and democracy and capitalism are the solutions, and
those that fear these will do unspeakable acts to retain their
terrorist/Nazi/Socialist/Communist programs.

I assure you I know very little of libertarianism other than casual knowledge
and the aforementioned test. The difference is in SCORING on a ten question
test as one (ie I am a Libertarian because the test said I was), and actually
being one. Platt isn't one either to my knowledge. We were just baiting
others for professing to believe in two completely incompatible beliefs. One
taken to its logical extreme dictates all freedom in the name of the
thugs-with-guns that declare themselves our leaders, and the other embraces
freedom and limited central control. I secretly suspect that the self
proclaimed "libertarian/socialist" moniker means "let me do whatever I want
and you damn well better support me while I do it."

But then again, I am probably wrong.
