Hi Wim Nusselder:
Regarding your question about terrorism being rooted in biological
values , I can only refer you (and others) once again to Pirsig's
statement in Chap. 24 of LILA:
"In the battle of society against biology, the new twentieth century
intellectuals have taken biology's side. Society can handle biology
alone by means of prisons and guns and police and the military. But
when the intellectuals in control of society take biology's side against
society then society is caught in a cross fire from which it has no
protection."
I agree that the germ analogy, like all analogies, can be carried too far
and appreciate comments in that regard.
As for bombing Afghanistan back to the Stone Age I agree that would
be ineffective. Some well placed strikes at military targets, however,
may be called for. But, I'm no military strategist. We have professionals
in that field, thank goodness, as well as federal, state and local police
dedicated to protecting our society from criminal elements.
Whether we can directly annihilate our enemies is again a matter for
the experts in diplomatic and military matters. I don't know whether they
can do it or not, but I certainly hope so--for the sake of constitutional
democracies everywhere.
Best regards,
Platt
