DMALONE:
These attacks might have the effect of curtailing americans' freedoms (and
indeed that is what terrorism is all about), but the reason for the
terrorism is not (as Bush and others have suggested) the fact of americans'
freedom but the actions (as you put it 'social'; though i would lean toward
characterising it as anti-social) she takes (in the name of every american)
in the outside world.
This a very important point for american people to grasp in this tabloid
driven war-mongering: it is not who you are or what you stand for that
offends the vast majority of people (of that are indeed offended ..
admittedly most aren't) in the world .. but how your government represents
you to the world. this is a conflict born out of ignorance by the vast
majority of US citizens of what their elected representatives do in their
name.
It's no coincidence that in foreign policy there is much more consensus
between the two major parties in the US than over any other issue. There are
simply no votes in foreign policy besides the obvious (use the strongest
rhetoric in support of isreal), so both parties are happy to leave it to the
hawks in the pentagon to reliably deliver a periodic war to stir the
patriotism of the people.
Americans, wake up and see what you have done (by proxy) to these people and
then start to understand what creates an atmosphere for the hatred most
recently exhibited to thrive.
ROG:
Could you be more specific please? What did America do and what would you,
and preferably your interpretation of the MOQ, have recommended? What good
and bad lessons does your country offer? (I get the feeling that some of the
other countries are darn near utopias based upon the members' perceptions of
the USA. Feel free to share.)
