Hi Angus and all,
ANGUS
I think I am near to this Dynamic Quality thing in
spirit. It is very close to the Heidegger/Derrida
tradition. Heidegger defines truth as revelation
. . . [snip]
I've not read Heidegger or Derrida, but this meshes extremely well with
my own view. I've come to view DQ as a "potential", that may become
REALized. What Heidegger is calling truth, I call reality and what he
calls revelation is what I call realization.
I can't comment on other aspects of Heidegger/Derrida because I don't
know enough and haven't thought about it enough.
ANGUS
I don't like and I don't understand this whole "level"
talk. It's very jargonistic. I have to know the 4
levels and I have to know what evolution levels are.
It's seems so flimsy in concept after the brilliant
stroke of DQ.
Angus, I fully agree with you. Bodvar may criticise you as a "newcomer",
but he can't really level that accusation at me.
However, the fact is that a hierarchy of levels can be developed, and
this is often useful. Thus it seems clear to me WHY Pirsig might want
such a structure even if we don't all agree of HOW he does this. That's
probably the source of the majority of the arguments in the forum.
