And you are right. The only problem is that the process of globalization of markets and armies can't be reversed. Either we ride it, or we suffer it.
Well, it's not me the expert of federalism here. USA have a federal govt./justice/parliament/police and local matching powers. This is the right way to have one only nation leaving the possibility for a certain local diversity. Well, I guess the only solution for the globalised world is to have a superior level for all that. But actually we have one market (WTO) and one army (NATO) without one justice, so the system lacks of balance.
