Pirsig's ethics are: there are rules of value to
follow based on levels of quality. BUT there is ONE
trump card to the rules and that is the dynamic
quality of the individual (and that is why it is
called LILA, she is the example of the one trump card
being played). The individual CAN violate the rules IN
following an individual response to quality. This
trump card is akin to your "seek Meaning" I think.
This trump card is MYSTICAL and so history is the
judge. BUT, Pirsig believes in the "GOOD" so this
mystical deviation from the rules should be good in
the long haul. LILA is quality in using her trump card
to violate the rules of quality. DQ trumps sq
everytime. If she violates sq in the spirit of her DQ,
she is moral. If she violates sq without DQ, she is
immoral.
{These are very Kierkegaardian ethics IMHO)
